Discovery GO is a media and entertainment platform that lets you watch live streams and full episodes of amazing content from the Discovery Channel on your smartphone or tablet. Many of us grew up watching Discovery Channel. We were very fortunate to have played a part in the delivery of Discovery channel content to mobile phone users. We worked with the amazing team at Discovery Channel for 2.5 years, and got to work with a group of dedicated professionals (product, project, tech, design and QA) who happened to be super nice and funny. We disaggregated the app originally created to serve multiple networks into seven apps - one for each TV network (Discovery, TLC, Animal Planet, Investigation Discovery, etc.) using the one unified code base, server configuration and hypermedia-driven REST web services (HATEAOS) and custom CMS to dynamically change the rendering of the UI/UX and content based on the TV network served. We also helped implement numerous features for the apps and integrated analytics to improve user experience and allow the product stakeholders to devise ways to increase user registrations, engagements and retentions. The nature of the project combined with the great people makes this a memorable project.
